Abstract This paper reports recent simulation experiments that probe the capabilities of a particular multicellular developmental model. Biological development is a complicated process involving cells interacting under genetic control. Cells interact via chemical, mechanical, and electrical mechanisms to create the shape of an organism. Instead of trying to simplify a developmental system su ciently to enable a thorough mathematical analysis, we have tried to include in our model as many of the relevant mechanisms as is computationally feasible. The resulting simulation system exhibits many emergent phenomena seen in biological systems: combination of lineage-directed and interactiondirected development, morphogenesis based on the interaction of multiple mechanisms, formation of segmented shapes, formation of hierarchical structures, and regeneration of damaged structures. In the future, we believe there will be great value in using simulations such as these to gain intuitions about biological systems that can later be examined more closely and subjected to analysis. Nonlinear dynamic of the multicellular chopper
In this paper, the dynamics of multicellular chopper are considered. The model is described by a continuous time three--dimensional autonomous system. Some basic dynamical properties such as Poincar'e mapping, power spectrum and chaotic behaviors are studied. Analysis results show that this system has complex dynamics with some interesting characteristics.

Introduction: The goal of any type of radiation therapy in the treatment of tumors, in addition to destroying cancer cells, is to minimizing radiation to nearby healthy cells and thus reducing side damages. For this purpose, targeted radiation therapy (TRT) is more effective in treating of single cells or small cluster of cells. The main factor in the success of this method is...
متن کاملThe Evolution of Genetic Regulatory Networks for Single and Multicellular Development
Recently, researchers have recognised the benefits of learning from biological development in order to engineer self-organizing solutions to problems. Building upon previous work, this paper explores the application of the developmental metaphor to the problem of controlling single and multicellular development. In this paper, a summary of experiments performed using a multicellular test-bed mo...
متن کاملMultidisciplinary approaches to understanding collective cell migration in developmental biology
Mathematical models are becoming increasingly integrated with experimental efforts in the study of biological systems. Collective cell migration in developmental biology is a particularly fruitful application area for the development of theoretical models to predict the behaviour of complex multicellular systems with many interacting parts. In this context, mathematical models provide a tool to...
متن کاملMulticellular Development, Self-Organization, and Differentiation
This paper describes experiments performed using a multicellular test-bed, the Evolutionary Developmental System (EDS). The EDS is an objectoriented model of biological development designed for the study of 3D multicellular development and differentiation. Genetic regulatory networks are used to specify and control the construction of varied multicellular morphologies. The construction of these...
